Churchyard plan
For the 2021/22 photographic survey of the churchyard it has been divided into sections A-F with section CP being where cremation plaques are found.
You can find a more detailed chart for each section at Churchyard plan section ‘X’
Most sections are split into rows A, B, etc with the graves within a row then numbered from 1. Mostly the rows run from west to east and the numbers north to south. Church Street bounds the churchyard on the south and the lichgate is at the east.
The churchyard has been extended several times and the lastest is section F which is in use for current burials and interment of ashes.
I have found one centenarian, many military men, surnames which recur over the centuries and names which now grace local streets and farms.
Many of the older gravestones are difficult to read now but in the 1980s a survey of the inscriptions was done by a genealogical society when the stones were less damaged. If necessary this earlier transcription has been quoted. Some stones however were even then illegible.
